Seasonal playbookFor businessesFall/Winter 2026Updated October 2026

Your holiday playbook.

In November, someone sends a friend an offer worth knowing about. In December, they ask where to find a gift. In January, they ask where to take their first class. Three different reasons to recommend a business, and they don't need three separate marketing programs. In short: share a timely offer in November, lean into gifts in December, and welcome new routines in January.

01

Late November: make the timely offer easy to share.

Black Friday falls on November 27 this year, and the shopping weekend runs through Cyber Monday on November 30. If you already have a promotion, a package or a membership offer planned, this is the moment to put it in front of people who know and like you.

You may not need another discount. You need an offer clear enough that someone can pass it to a friend without explaining the fine print, and it works best when the link carries something a friend can't get on their own. A creator can introduce it to people who've never visited. A regular can send it to the friend who's been meaning to come in.

02

December: gifts, experiences and plans.

December changes the conversation. A massage studio may have a giftable service. A salon is top of mind for someone getting ready for a party. A neighborhood restaurant is where a group wants to meet up. The right angle depends on what you offer.

Not everything needs to become a gift card. Give your network a relevant reason to bring you up. If gift cards are part of it, check how their purchase and later redemption are tracked before you build the season around them.

03

January: meet the people ready to try something new.

In January, conversations turn to classes, routines and getting back into a rhythm. Fitness and wellness studios may have the clearest opening, but beauty, recovery and food businesses can give first-timers an easy way in too. Treat January as its own chance to reach new people, not a recap of December.

The right first step is often the one you already have. What matters is that a friend understands why it's worth trying, and the person recommending it has a simple way to send it. Last January, The NOW Massage hosted winter evenings for creators at its Austin and Atlanta studios, so the season's first recommendations started from a real visit.

04

The season should give the program momentum, not an expiration date.

The most useful thing to carry into February isn't a holiday promotion. It's a growing group of people who know your business, have a reason to recommend it, and have a way to do it again.

After the season, look at each step on its own:

  1. Joined
  2. Link taps
  3. Claimed
  4. Matched

Those numbers show you who took part and what their recommendations produced, even though a matched purchase doesn't prove every sale was new. A good holiday push gives you a reason to start. The bigger opportunity is what your network keeps doing once the holidays are over.
